Daniel Johnston

Since all my posts, should Nate ever decide to publish them, have to mirror Nathaniel's, I figured I'd write about one of my favorite street artists, Daniel Johnston. For the most part, he's actually a musician as opposed to an artist. I don't know his full life story, but supposedly when he began recording, he was working at a McDonald's or something. He couldn't afford a tape deck that could record multiple tapes, so he would simply re-record his album onto a cassette every time he wanted to give one away, which he did with any meal purchase.
He actually became somewhat popular. And in '93, he painted Jeremiah the Innocent, from one of his album covers, onto a wall in downtown Austin. A documentary or two has been made about him, and for a while a rock opera (I think) named Speeding Motorcycle, one of his albums, ran for a while in Austin.

Superbowl Half-Time Show

To be honest, when I heard that the Black Eyed Peas were doing the Superbowl halftime show, I wasn't excited. Boy was I wrong.

Being in a Band // Free Time

One of the most underrated parts of being in a band is the amount of free time you get to spend with the band goofing off. You really have a lot of down time whether it be waiting for a show to start or afterwards when the event is still going on and you need to get your gear off stage. My band has done numerous things to pass the time and I will recount just a few of my favorites. For one event my band literally had a fruit ninja competition to see who could get the highest high-score on Fruit Ninja (Which is a very fun game).

Another time Greyson and I sat down in rolling chairs and got foam swords. I have no idea where we got them. Then we rolled around in chairs having a battle with foam swords while sitting down. Eventually we started jousting in the chairs by having two people roll us at each other while we tried to hit the other with the swords. Eventually Greyson got up and we started an all out fight with the swords.

My Opinions on Music Part 1

I figured I would start my blog out with some music that I enjoy listening to. I'll just do this by band and maybe add some other stuff as I go along.
One of my all time favorite bands would be Switchfoot. The singer Jon Foreman just has some excellent lyrical ideas and the music is pretty good. Foreman's solo project is also pretty sweet and I throughly enjoyed listening to his EPs. Hello Hurricane

Another band whose music I enjoy is MuteMath. The lyrics are honestly not the best, but the music is some of the best I've ever heard. If you liked U2 then I think MuteMath would be very enjoyable. Mutemath

As far as the best vocals I've heard in a long while I would highly recommend you listen to Bon Iver. I have no idea how you say it but that's how you spell the band's name. They have some of the best harmonies I've heard in a long while. Possibly since the Beatles. Dare I say it? For Emma, Forever Ago
